a pattern
- in a pattern language
- sitte analyzes 255 churches in rome; from those, only 6 were free standing (!). the majority had three sides attached to other buildings.
- empty space between buildings is often useless and just a pretension of independence.
  - reminds me of bolo bolo drawings a bit
